The debut solo studio album from the acclaimed NYC-based hip-hop producer and beatmaker Blockhead, originally released in 2004. Initially building a rep via his close association with fellow New Yorker and rapper Aesop Rock, and releasing via El Ps cult underground hip-hop label Definitive Jux, it was perhaps inevitable that Blockhead would explore solo instrumental production. The beats on Music By Cavelight explore moodier tones and textures with lush instrumentation underpinned by trademark tough drums. This is a record that establishes its own emotional space and holds it from start to finish, establishing Blockhead as a major player in the so-called trip-hop movement alongside the likes of DJ Shadow, RJD2, DJ Krush and Kid Koala. 4LP pressed on marbled forest green 140g vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve. This 20th anniversary edition includes two bonus discs featuring classic Aesop Rock instrumentals and never-beforereleased Lost Files from 1999-2003. Digital download card included.
