As well as a good reception from fans, . was well supported in the press, with the Financial Times (UK) calling the album richly textured & forceful and tender treatments of the theme of loss, Classic Rock (UK) claiming it to be A tour de force of experimental music making 8/10 & Metal Hammer (DE) described it as another masterstroke 6/7.
Recorded at Londons illustrious Air Studios, Steven reunited Guthrie Govan (guitar), Adam Holzman (keyboards), Theo Travis (flute / sax), Nick Beggs (bass / stick) & Marco Minneman (drums). This mid-price CD edition of H.C.E. will be presented in a digipack sleeve with an 8-page booklet featuring artwork by long time Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson artist & designer Carl Glover (in conjunction with images from Hajo Mueller & Lasse Hoile).
The basic story, or concept of the record its about a woman growing up, who goes to live in the city, very isolated & she disappears one day & no one notices. Theres more to it than that. Now, whats interesting about this story is that your initial reaction when you hear a story like that is, Ah, little old bag lady that no one notices, no one cares about. She wasnt like that. She was young, she was popular, she was attractive, she had many friends, she had family, but for whatever reason, nobody missed her for three years. Steven Wilson
