Description
Tall Ships have recently toured the UK and Europe in support of Los Campesinos!, Dry the River and Maps&Atlases. They have also just begun a very busy festival schedule, playing to packed rooms at Camden Crawl, Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape (for which they were one of the Guardians bands to see), which saw 2 nights of queues around the block, mass singalongs and fire alarms being set off.
Tall Ships had an amazing 2011. In October they had an incredible week in New York, performing at the CMJ Music Marathon showcasing their mesmerising live set to a host of excitable new fans. It wrapped up a busy festival season which saw them pack out tents and wow crowds at Bestival, Hop Farm, 2000 Trees, The Great Escape (one of NMEs Top 20 Bands You Must See), Live At Leeds, Tramlines and numerous others, and also managed to squeeze in a week of playing shows in Brazil. They also released their first 7 single Hit The Floor which instantly sold out. The band closed 2011 with a sold out headline show at the Lexington in November.
The band, originally from Falmouth but now living in Brighton, have been garnering attention across the blogosphere, printed press and radio with their complex, layered and beautiful soundscapes and intelligent songwriting to create music that still manages to have the potential for mass appeal.
Elements of math rock and angular pop have drawn inevitable comparisons to the likes of Battles and Minus The Bear but the band cite the likes of Sigur Rós, Prince and Explosions In The Sky as their musical influences.
Live Tall Ships are a must see band, mesmerising to watch, with such energy and deftness you cant help but be amazed by them. They are fast gaining a well-deserved reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting live bands in the UK right now. They tour relentlessly and have honed the show into a thrilling experience, both aurally and visually as layers of sound and vocals are cleverly and deftly assembled to startling effect. They have already supported the likes of We Are Scientists, Metronomy (in Brazil), 65 Days Of Static (throughout Europe), Maps & Atlases, The Futureheads, Minus The Bear, Three Trapped Tigers & Tubelord.
