Reissue of Cocteau Twin’s 1986 album Victorialand, remastered from the original analogue tapes. The most mellow and ethereal album in the band’s discography, the Robin Guthrie and Liz Fraser stripped back the band’s sound from the elaborate cacophony of 1985’s Treasure. The Cocteau’s trademark drum machine is almost entirely absent, while acoustic guitars and piano accompany Fraser’s enchanting vocals, which are at their most captivating against a relatively sparce backdrop. The absence of Guthrie’s intense guitar howl does not, however, dull this album’s impression and it remains one of the band’s most accomplished achievements within their estimable body of work.
