Description
American singer songwriter Kendra Morris grew up imbued with a sense of musicher parents played in bands together, and she often broke into their cabinets full of vinyl to listen to their favourite records. As Marvin Gaye, the Spinners, War, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5, and the Temptations washed over her, they soon became hers too. She sang along to her favorite albums with a voice she discovered soon after she learned how to talk. Such influences can be seen in Banshee with track Pow drawing on a jazz influences quote from Kendra about Pow and Here displaying the perfect blend of soul and blues.
Banshee is an amalgam of stories, both imagined and Morriss own, produced by previous collaborator Jeremy Page and slated for an early 2014 release by naïve in Europe. In a way, banshees just cast spells with their voices, Morris says, and I just think some of the greatest singers do the same thing.
Possessing one of the best and unforgettable voices internationally right now, Kendra Morriss new release Banshee, draws upon cinematic elements, soul, blues and seventies funk while showcasing Kendras powerhouse vocals. With this release, Kendra has created something which encompasses old and new, whilst at the same time still manages to display spectacular originality.
Morris has built an inimitable reputation as a singer song writer and performer following collaborations with producers like Jeremy Page and receiving highly acknowledged prizes following her conscientious effort working on her craft as a song writer. She was acknowledged by ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011. The institutions awarded Morris the 2011 Holly Prize, which recognizes excellence in song writing, performing, and musicianship. Following recognition for her craft in singer song writing, Morris toured with Motown Funk Brother Dennis Coffey and has received support from American DJ, producer and the other half of hip hop duo Gang Starr, DJ Premiere, who remixed her first single Concrete Waves.
