Description
Formed in 1967 by guitarist Peter Green after leaving John Mayalls Bluesbreakers, Fleetwood Mac (then billed as Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac) brought together Green, Jeremy Spencer, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. The group took its name from Greens bandmates, reflecting his wish for the project to continue beyond his own involvement. Produced by Mike Vernon and released on his Blue Horizon label in early 1968, their self-titled debut blends Chicago-style blues standards with striking originals by Green and Spencer. The album became an immediate success, spending nearly a year on the UK charts and selling over a million copies. A defining statement of the British blues explosion and an early chapter in one of rocks most enduring stories, it remains among the bands most vital recordings.
