With their first two albums, In Solitude have already taken things by storm and established themselves as an original, dark heavy metal combo. ‘Sister’ now breaks with all sorts of Swedish traditions: labeled by many in the past as a group clearly influenced by Mercyful Fate and King Diamond, In Solitude sometimes tread completely different paths on their third album.
While the two previous records ‘In Solitude’ and ‘The World. The Flesh. The Devil’ were still very much at home in the 80s in terms of sound, the musical roots of ‘Sister’ are more to be found in the 70s …’Sister’ sounds more like an old, overlooked 70s record. There are certainly some cross-references to the Danish metal kings, but In Solitude have internalized their very own style with their new work. Don’t worry: time-honored heavy metal with a good pinch of gloom is still the credo of the quintet from Uppsala.
