Description
Live at the Village Vanguard, was Coltranes first official live album. Coltrane is joined here on two tunes by Eric Dolphy on bass clarinet, plus McCoy Tyner on piano, Elvin Jones on drums, and Reggie Workman and Jimmy Garrison alternating on bass. Garrisons presence on this album makes this the first recording by what came to be known as Coltranes Classic Quartet. Recorded live at the Village Vanguard, New York, November 2 and 3, 1961. This new LP version is part of Verves Acoustic Sounds series and features transfers from the original analogue tapes mastered by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QPR.
