Description
New German Cinema is the solo project of Jess Weiss, the voice and songwriter behind Fear of Men. Pain Will Polish Me gathers songs written over several years and across continents, shaped by distance, restraint and an insistence on letting ideas unfold at their own pace. Produced with Alex DeGroot, the album is carefully constructed yet emotionally exposed, balancing cool electronic textures with Weisss unmistakable vocal presence. The songs feel like private transmissions – solitary but searching for connection – where intimacy and control begin to overlap. Weiss describes the record as a meditation on pop music and the psychological intensity of European art-house cinema, particularly the work of Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Across the album, love is explored as obsession, surrender and repetition, tracing how parts of the self can dissolve within closeness. Claustrophobic relationships, devotion that edges into harm, and emotional endurance sit at the core of these songs. Released by felte, Pain Will Polish Me is a quiet, inward-looking record that finds beauty in restraint and power in emotional precision.
