‘Even If and Especially When’ is the second studio album by American grunge band Screaming Trees, released on 28th March 1987 by SST Records.
‘Even If…’ is lauded as a pivotal proto-grunge and psych-rock release that captured the band’s signature blend of psychedelic melodies and raw, garage-rock energy. Produced by Steve Fisk, the album features Mark Lanegan’s developing, “melismatic” vocal style over guitarist Gary Lee Conner’s buzzing riffs and the driving rhythm of drummer Mark Pickerel, foreshadowing the sound of the emerging Seattle grunge scene and standing as a key work in the band’s discography. The album received rapturous adulation and is often cited as the best of the band’s three early albums for the SST label.
