Simon Spillett is a multi award-winning English hard bop tenor saxophonist. He leads a quartet of bona fide jazz royalty and is firmly established as a leading light of the UK grass roots jazz scene. Square One is Spilletts Gearbox Records debut and his first recording since 2007s Sienna Red, Jazz Journals CD Of The Year. Its a straight ahead session featuring a new Spillett original and choice repertoire by Jimmy Deuchar, Dizzy Gillespie,Cole Porter and Dizzy Reece.
The album was recorded live in the studio direct to stereo tape, mastered all-analogue at Gearbox and manufactured as an audiophile quality 180gm Vinyl LP.
