Description
Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti archival series is inaugurated by Underground, an album originally self-released on cassette in 1999 by the 21-year-old undergraduate CalArts student. Underground captures Ariel Pinksrapidly developing practice, which in short time shifted from crude proto-punk home recordings to a singular aesthetic that explored a wide spectrum of pop music. Now available in remastered and expanded form as part of Mexican Summers Ariel Archives reissue series, this version of Underground reveals astounding details missing from Ariels earliest recordings and demonstrates the evolution of an obsessive music fan to a startlingly original and mysterious innovator.
Releases in the Ariel Archives series will be expanded to contain much of the original material left off prior reissues that were made available in the mid-2000s and are now out of print. The first installment begins with Underground, Odditties Sodomies Vol. 2 (a long-awaited second volume of outtakes and non-album tracks), and finally Loverboy, an exemplary disc recorded between October 2001 and July 2002, at which time Ariel also recorded House Arrest. Releases in Ariel Archives will not follow a chronological sequence, though the first installment starts at the beginning with Underground.
