Description
Singer and songwriter born Wesley Stace is returning to his given name on his new album, appropriately called Self-Titled.
Its not that he hasnt been using Stace professionally: in addition to having released a slew of albums over the years as John Wesley Harding (also the title of a 1967 Bob Dylan LP), hes published three novels as Wesley Stace. Using his birth name made sense for the new album, given the more personal nature of the songs.
Novels seem to take care of the intellectual business for me these days, and my songs have become a lot more intimate and autobiographical, requiring a different musical treatment entirely, Stace said in a statement. It seemed ridiculous to sing them under any name but my own. Its time to bring everything under one roof.
The album includes a pair of tunes co-written by Eleanor Friedberger of the Fiery Furnaces. Its a smooth, soulful track powered by a round bassline, subtle strings and Staces low-key vocals.
